Ánima
Brushstrokes of the breath of life.
Beyond the anthropocentric.
Ánima continues my exploration of the relationship between humans and the non-human life. Aiming to give voice to nature, and inviting us to reconnect with it through reciprocity, respect and gratitude.
For the animals I print onto skin, bone, natural silk or feathers of domesticated animals. Materials that we use generally without questioning their source, or their life conditions. Thus, the wild is inscribed upon the domesticated or the industrialized, generating a dialogue charged with tensions and resonances.
Trees portrayed on wood, and wild plants printed on papyrus or other natural plant fibers. The work focuses on an intimate fragment of the fauna and flora that moves me and triggers my memory, with the intention that it will also reveal the beauty and presence of the beings that inspired it.
Through a multidisciplinary dialogue between photography and painting I explore the mystery of shared life. Everything seems to be permeated by a common energy; the lines I paint or carve seek to reveal those invisible forces that link matter and spirit, invoke the invisible yet ‘animated’.
